Instructional Rounds in Focus

“By completing rounds, you have the opportunity to observe quality teachers engaged in their craft and you will have the chance to participate in valuable discussions about instructional practices with colleagues.”

Wednesday, the department chairs, Chris and I had the opportunity to complete instructional rounds of our building. As the rounds were being completed throughout the day, I was reminded of the high quality teachers we have educating our students each day. In every classroom I visited, students were engaged in variety of learning activities and the teachers provided ongoing support for students. Once we finished our rounds, we met as a whole group in the conference room. The conversations that the department chairs and I engaged in after the rounds were just as valuable as the rounds themselves.

As the year progresses, I would strongly encourage everyone to participate in instructional rounds with your colleagues. By completing rounds, you have the opportunity to observe quality teachers engaged in their craft and you will have the chance to participate in valuable discussions about instructional practices with colleagues.
