A New Beginning with Digits

The math department attended a training session on how to use and implement Digits in the math classroom. My exposure to Digits was extensive since I utilized the program during my student teaching. Even with my student teaching experience, the training session expanded my knowledge of how to use Digits and of programs I haven’t seen used before. The session was a fantastic opportunity for the department to collaborate and bond.

With no prior training on Digits, except for my cooperating teachers, I was unaware of the layouts of the lessons provided by Digits. The session highlighted which areas were intended for guided practice, and which were for independent practice. This new knowledge only strengthened my desire to use Digits in a classroom. Another aspect I learned about was the Dash program. This program allowed for communication between the teacher and students, a digital version on the student companion book, and allowed for ease of note sharing. This is a great resource for absent students. If a student misses a day, the teacher or other students can share any notes taken in class.

Being more informed about the program will make the learning more engaging for both the students and teachers than it has been in past experiences. It is an exciting start to a new school year and the training created an eagerness to get started with Digits.
